Examples of Italian dialogue taught
Learning the language of real Italians
If you want to say "How are you?" in Italian, you say "Comè sta?"
In most "Teach Yourself Italian" books the answer would be:
"Sto bene" or "Sto male", which in English is: "I am well", or "I am ill"
However, a much more colloquial way of answering would be "Si tira avanti"
which literally means "Life pulls you onwards".
If you want to have a word in private with a colleague the expression is:
"a quattro occhi" which literally means "4 eyes together"!
